Jukka Lempiäinen, President

Jukka Lempiäinen (M’02) was born in Helsinki, Finland, in 1968. He received his M.Sc., Lic.Tech. and Dr.Tech. degrees, all in electrical engineering, from Helsinki University of Technology, Espoo, Finland, in 1993, 1998, and 1999, respectively. He is a senior partner and President of European Communications Engineering (ECE) Ltd. Before ECE Ltd he worked for Nokia for more than five years in different positions in the area of radio network planning. Altogether he has almost 15 years of experience in GSM based mobile network planning and consulting. Currently he is also a Professor at Tampere University of Technology, Finland. For his entire career, he has been concentrating on the radio planning of cellular networks. His main interests are to combine coverage and capacity related topics (topology planning in UMTS) and to adjust the performance of technical details like diversity, reception and GPRS traffic for the air interface. He is the author of two international books, several journals and conference papers, and he holds three patents. Dr. Lempiäinen is a URSI national board member, Finland.

Matti Manninen, CEO

Matti Manninen was born in Ähtäri, Finland in 1968. He received his M.Sc (EE) and M.Sc (Econ) degrees from the Helsinki University of Technology, and from Helsinki School of Economics, Finland in 1994 and 1999 respectively. He is a senior partner and the Chief Executive Officer of European Communications Engineering (ECE) Ltd. Before ECE Ltd he worked for Nokia for more than five years in different positions in the area of radio network planning. Altogether he has more than 20 years of experience in radio communication and telecommunications. He is the co-author of two international books about GSM/GPRS/UMTS cellular radio planning and he holds one patent. His main interests lie in techno-economical modelling of radio networks and optimizing operators’ total cost of ownership.

Hans Ahnlund, Vice President

Hans Ahnlund was born in Porjus, Sweden in 1968. He received his M.Sc. (EE) degree from Lund University of Technology in 1994. He is Vice President and board member of European Communications Engineering. Before ECE Ltd he worked for Nokia for more than five years in different positions in the area of telecommunications. Altogether he has more than ten years of experience in the field of wireless telecommunications design and optimization, and international experience in radio access technologies like NMT, GSM/GPRS, UMTS and HSPA. He is one of the authors of the book 'UMTS Radio Network Planning, Optimisation and QoS Management'. He holds two patents in the wireless technology sector.

Risto Jurva Vice President

Risto Jurva was born in Tervola, Finland in 1966. He received his M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Oulu, Finland in 1993. He is Vice president and an executive board member of European Communications Engineering (ECE) Ltd. He has previously worked for Nokia for eight years, holding various positions in radio network planning and optimisation. Currently he has 15 years of experience in mobile network planning and consulting, covering NMT, GSM/GPRS, UMTS and TETRA technologies. He is one of the authors of the book 'UMTS Radio Network Planning, Optimisation and QoS Management'. During his career he has gained experience in numerous international projects concentrating in analysing, troubleshooting and optimising mobile networks as well as in project management.
